Dave places a tree on the cover and this has got me thinking about the meaning of this tree. Could it represent a family tree and leaving a legacy for that family? Could it mean that the tree has roots, which are the foundation of the tree just like becoming financially successful would be setting the foundation for your family's legacy? Whatever the meaning of the tree, I think it connects very well with the idea of building a legacy for your family.
Book Review:The Legacy Journey, Part 1
As I continue to grow in my Christian faith, I have become interested in seeing what the bible has to say about money. That is what drew me to reading "The Legacy Journey" by Dave Ramsey. Dave calls this book a radical view of what the Bible says about money. So, I bought it on audio book and I have listened to it multiple times so I can form my opinion and take notes. This book quotes a lot scripture and Dave has formed his opinions based on what the bible states. This book is over six hours long and there is so much to cover. This is why I am breaking the review up into multiple parts.
Generosity
Generosity is one of the greatest things that we can give with our time or even our money. The Lord calls for us to be generous and this calling is a calling of faith. How faithful are you? Do you trust in the Lord to provide, when you give away the money that you earned?
The Importance of Keeping Track of Your Finances
Over the weekend, I was checking my Personal Capital dashboard to see how bad the down market has hurt our net worth. As you would imagine, our net worth took a hit, just like everyone else. This does not mean that I am running to the hills and selling everything. We have to remember that retirement investing is an investment for the long haul and we can't get scared by a dip in the market. It is always important to remember this fact whenever the nightly news scares you into thinking that this is the crash to end all mankind. Don't worry, the market will recover and we will be better off than we were before.
The Riches of Lifetime Learning
I have heard people talk about the importance of being a lifetime learner. I had never really understood this concept and used my free time watching TV or playing video games. I had heard many co-workers mention the importance of lifetime learning and teaching our students to be lifetime learners. I didn't understand this, because I didn't want to be continually in college classes. I had a major misconception about lifetime learning.
