Earlier this week, I was listening to one of my podcasts and an article was discussed. This article followed a young intern in New York City around. The young woman makes $25 an hour, receives a $1,100 allowance from her parents/grandfather and her parents pay her rent.
If you have read my last three posts, by now you know that we have added another member to our family. Our second child was born 3 weeks ago and we have been lucky enough to adjust with everyone at home. I am currently on summer break from teaching and my daughter is not going back to daycare until both of us go back to work. This means a little over a month of great family time! It has been pretty amazing!
Two weeks ago as I was working on some articles for the website, I stumbled on an interesting article about social security. The article was titled, "Millennials and Retirement: How Bad is It?" by Alicia H. Munnell on Politico's website. The article dug into the numbers of savings for retirement. The data that they shared was from a study conducted by the U.S Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System, titled, "Survey of Consumer Finances, 1983-2016." In the article, they shared the following graph.
For me, respect is a tough topic to write about and define. I believe this stems from being an educator. As educators, we always talk about the importance of teaching our students respect. In professional developments, this is met with a question, "What does respect look like? What does respect really mean?" The leader of this type of professional development is trying to make us see that not everybody knows the meaning of respect. Therefore, there is a broad understanding in the educational field that respect needs to be taught and modeled to our students.
Growing up in Nebraska, I remember celebrating Arbor Day every year while I was in school. It was a big celebration in my state and school, because Arbor Day was first celebrated in Nebraska. I have lived in Texas for over 8 years and Arbor Day is not a big deal in the state and even the schools. Therefore, I decided to take a break from my originally scheduled articles on finances and discuss ways to celebrate a holiday that gives back to the environment!
